100 YEARS GASSENWIRT
1923 - 2023
How many persons have passed this „House in the Alley“? How many life fates has it probably seen?
The Gassenwirt in Kiens has a long history. The building has been mentioned for the first time in documents in 1377. In 1923 Anton Falkensteiner purchased the Gassenwirt with guesthouse and farm. Together with his wife Maria he ran the village tavern through difficult times: the period after the World War I, the Fascism, the time before, between and after the World War II.
After Anton’s death, his son Bruno took over the Gassenwirt which at that time was just a village tavern without guest rooms. In 1966 he married Gertraud Lamprecht and got 5 children. Together they expanded the Gassenwirt and ran the farm. For 35 years Bruno was also politically active in the local community of Kiens. In his free time, Bruno liked to go climbing in the mountains, one of his hiking highlight was the ascent of Mont Blanc.

The new generation
For the love of food
Since 2016 the Gassenwirt is run by Andreas and his wife Petra. Their love for nature and passion for healthy food can be felt everywhere. The Gassenwirt cuisine is characterized by a close regional cooperation with the local farmers and producers. Thus we serve our guests fine cheese selections from the Gatscherhof-farm cheese dairy, freshly baked bread from our Gassenwirt wood oven and homemade speck and cold cuts like coppa, salami and “Kaminwurzen” from our 400-year-old smokehouse.
As member of the network “South Tyrolean Guesthouse” we put the focus on the preparation of regional specialities made of local products as well as on the maintainance and preservation of the traditional South Tyrolean restaurant culture. To do this we carefully select the best regional products, process them according to traditional recipes and proudly serve our delicious specialities to our guests.
